Right up until the last moment, it remained touch and go whether the hardwood for the lower beam layer would be delivered on time. It arrived on 7 January, just in the nick of time, so we were able to start as planned. The beams, made of Sal wood, are extremely heavy yet exceptionally durable. With a combined effort, they were positioned on the concrete foundation. There, they form a stable and moisture-resistant layer against the ground – the solid foundation for the rest of the construction. On this basis, the actual wooden structure will be erected using the lighter Swiss stone pine.
